Why I don’t care for Saxon math

I used to use Saxon math at the HS level but stopped, and keep getting more support of that descision.

“He who loves practice without theory is like the sailor who boards a ship without a rudder and compass and never knows where he may cast”

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)

While math is useful, this should never be the primary justification for mathematics. The great mathematicians did not “justify their work with with utilitarian applications any more that Shakespeare had to apologize for writing love sonnets instead of cookbooks or Van Gogh had to apologize for painting canvasses instead of billboards.”
