Art and the Christian

At the guys? weekend Jordan used one session to talk about art, do we do it, do we hide from it, what do we do with beauty. God made it, wants us to enjoy it, should we make things that are beautiful.

Keeping in mind that he had just helped us think through money and living a simple life, understanding money in light of the Gospel, to love God with all your being and love people. The extremist would go and say ?no art, if it doesn?t serve a purpose, utility, then its a waste of God?s precious money that he has entrusted us with to love others.?

God created us in his image?creative and making beautiful art (things that don?t have a utilitarian purpose) can serve a part in loving God with all of your being. Art can be an act of worship.

A poem he shared by the Yiddish writer Aaron Zeitlin entitled the Apathetic life.

The Apathetic Life

If you look at the stars
and yawn,
If you see suffering and
don?t cry out,
If you don?t praise
and don?t revile,
Then I created you in
vain, says God.

This really impacted me because I love to look at the stars and can?t imagine why you could/would observe the night sky and be able to walk away untouched. Mr.Marini loaned me a DVD called the Bethlehem Star that again caused me to worship as I contemplated the solar system and the Galaxy.
